Sherman County Community Transit provides dial-a-ride services throughout Sherman County with weekly trips to The Dalles and regular trips to Portland and points east for seniors, individuals with disabilities and others as space allows.

We are closed Veteran’s Day,  Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day.

Please call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a trip reservation.
Fare: $5.00 round-trip per rider.

The Sherman County Shopping bus Information:

All rides must be reserved a minimum of 24 to 48 hours in advance:  (541) 565-3553.  The Dalles shopping bus departs Moro at 8 a.m. for shopping. Return trip leaving The Dalles by 2:30 p.m. Suggested Donation: $5 per rider.  One per month the bus will go into Hood River for shopping.

Service Area

Sherman County Community Transit primarily serves clients in Sherman County, but has picked up clients in Sherman, Wasco, Gilliam, Morrow, Umatilla, Hood River, and Klickitat counties and transported clients to The Dalles, Hood River, Portland, Hillsboro, West Linn, Bend, and Vancouver, WA depending on the client’s need.

Mobile Ticket Option: Download the Passenger Transit Ticketing app from your app store. You can pre-purchase tickets or ticket books and activate them just before boarding.

Kids 10 years old and under ride for free.
6-10 year-olds can ride alone with an Authorization and Waiver completed (contact The Link).

Services Provided

  • Deviated Fixed Route: The Deviated Fixed Routes provide access to key destinations in The Dalles on Monday through Friday,  7:00 AM – 6:00 PM.  FARE:  Rides on the bus route are $1.00 each or use your Gorge Transit Pass.
  • Dial-a-Ride: The dial-a-ride, door-to-door public transportation operates Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM. Trips are $2.00 each way, scheduled in advance and may include other passengers going to different destinations. We pick up riders in the communities of The Dalles, Dufur, Mosier, Celilo and points between in unincorporated Wasco County.
  • The Dalles and Hood River Shopping Bus:  The shopping bus offers door-to-door service to grocery stores and shopping centers in The Dalles on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Cost is $3.00 for unlimited stops with no shopping bag limit. Our drivers will help load and unload your bags (bags must be under 25 pounds). On the 1st Friday and the 3rd Wednesday of each month, the shopping bus visits Hood River. Call 541-296-7595 to schedule your ride.
  • South County Shuttle:  South County Shuttle: The LINK has a shuttle every Tuesday and Thursday that picks up riders in Maupin, Wamic, Pine Hollow, Tygh Valley and Dufur for a few hours of shopping and appointments in The Dalles. This service is $5.00 round trip for pickups in Maupin and Tygh Valley and $3.00 round trip for pickups in Dufur.
  • Students Ride for Free: All high school students in The Dalles can ride for free, whether it is for school or entertainment.  To schedule give us a call or meet our drivers at our fixed route locations! You must present your Student ID.  K-8 Students also ride for free with a paying adult (Only applicable for school services).
  • Celilo Village and Lone Pine Service: Dial-a-Ride is available! Book by calling 541-296-7595. $3 for roundtrip service.

Mt. Adams Transportation Services (MATS): MATS provides dial-a-ride service and regular bus routes in Klickitat County and travels to destinations such as The Dalles and Hood River, Oregon.

Fixed Route Deviation:  The bus will deviate up to 3/4 mile off the fixed route to accommodate passengers. Requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

There is no service on the following holidays:  New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday following,  Christmas Day.

No weekend service (Monday through Friday only).

Bike Friendly: MATS vehicles now have bike racks and can transport your ride across the Hood River Bridge.

TRANSIT

  • Transit bus service is open to the general public.
  • Transit fares are cash only please or ride with a Gorge Pass. Credit cards are not accepted and drivers do not make change. Thank you!For updates about weather and traffic delays or cancellations click here: Skamania County Transit FacebookFlag Stops available: A flag stop is when a rider boards the bus at a location that is not an established bus stop with a posted bus stop sign. If you are unable to make it to a regular bus stop, flagging the bus down is an option in certain areas. As the bus approaches, raise and lower your arm over your head several times to catch the driver’s attention. Be sure to stay back from the edge of the road to allow the bus enough room to pull off. During dark or foggy weather we suggest you have a flashlight that you can wave for the driver to see you. Call for details or question (509) 427-3990.
  • Deviations:  The bus will deviate 3/4 mile from any designated stop.  For persons with disabilities, the bus will deviate 3/4 mile from Wind River Highway and SR 14.  Deviation requests must be made one day in advance by calling Senior Services at 509-427-3990.

Hood River County Transportation District provides public transportation in Hood River County under the name of Columbia Area Transit (CAT).

Accessible Buses – All CAT buses have wheelchair lifts or ramps and are accessible to customers in wheelchairs. All CAT Drivers are specially trained to assist customers with disabilities. Priority seating is given to seniors and persons with disabilities on our vehicle.

Reasonable Accommodation – Riders may request a “reasonable modification” to our policies, procedures or practices if it allows them to use or better access our services. Reasonable accommodation requests must be made in advance, before the trip is made, to ensure the request can be granted. Anyone who has asked for a reasonable modification and been denied may file a complaint form, asking their request be reconsidered.

Bikes on Buses – All CAT buses are equipped with bike racks. The racks are safe and easy to use. All drivers are knowledgeable about the use of bike racks.
