Hood River County Transportation District provides public transportation in Hood River County under the name of Columbia Area Transit (CAT).

Flag Us Down – Make your own bus stop. If there are no CAT bus stop signs nearby, you can “flag” or simply wave to signal the bus driver to stop anywhere on the fixed-route that’s safe for the driver to pull over.  Be sure to stand on the correct side of the road.

Accessible Buses – All CAT buses have wheelchair lifts or ramps and are accessible to customers in wheelchairs. All CAT Drivers are specially trained to assist customers with disabilities. Priority seating is given to seniors and persons with disabilities on our vehicle.

Reasonable Accommodation – Riders may request a “reasonable modification” to our policies, procedures or practices if it allows them to use or better access our services. Reasonable accommodation requests must be made in advance, before the trip is made, to ensure the request can be granted. Anyone who has asked for a reasonable modification and been denied may file a complaint form, asking their request be reconsidered.

Bikes on Buses – All CAT buses are equipped with bike racks. The racks are safe and easy to use. All drivers are knowledgeable about the use of bike racks.

What is the service animal & pet policy?

Service animals are allowed on all Columbia Area Transit vehicles. This includes animals-in-training accompanied by a trainer or person with disability. No permit is required, but the driver may ask if your animal is a service animal. Service animals must remain on the floor without blocking the aisle or on the owner’s lap.

Non-service animal dogs may ride at the discretion of the operator under these guidelines:

  • Drivers may refuse to transport a person and their dog if they already have another dog onboard.
  • Drivers may refuse to transport or request the removal of a dog if it is creating a hazard or disturbance.
  • All dogs that are not service animals must be on leash and muzzled. If you do not have access to a muzzle a reasonable modification can be requested at least a day in advance by calling (541) 386-4202.
  • Dogs are not allowed to occupy seats; they must remain either on the floor or sit on the owner’s lap.

Animals other than dogs are not allowed on Columbia Area Transit vehicles unless they are in a confined container or carrier.

CAT observes the following Holidays by closing most services:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King’s Birthday (Weekend level service)
  • President’s Day
  • Memorial Day  (Weekend level service)
  • Fourth of July  (Weekend level service)
  • Labor Day  (Weekend level service)
  • Thanksgiving Day (no services)
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day (no services)

Note: when a holiday falls on a Sunday, we are closed or running limited service the following Monday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, we will be closed or running limited service the Friday before.
